O’s come to terms with RHP Matt Hobgood

It was announced earlier that the O’s have come to terms with their first round pick, pitcher Matt Hobgood. Hobgood stands six feet four inches and went to Norco (CA) High School where he was named the 08-09 Gatorade player of the year in High School Baseball.

Hobgood went (9-0) with a 0.38 ERA this year as a senior, and was noticed by many major league scouts. He threw 55 innings with an amazing 84 SO.

This was the second year that the O’s drafted a pitcher with their first round pick as for last year, the O’s selected Brian Matusz out of San Diego. Matusz is currently pitching for double-a Bowie and is (5-2) with a 1.98 ERA.

I think that the O’s will have great pitching in years to come, due to the fact that their farm is loaded down with arms! The Birds have placed Koji Uehara on the 15 day DL due to a right elbow tendonitis. Uehara is (2-4) with a 4.05 ERA for the O’s this season. If the O’s continue to have struggles on the hill, the struggles will continue to happen on the (O)ffensive end.
