In the early part of the season, I was feeling,
Now with the O’s playing like this I am feeling,
I mean, C’mon, I was going crazy after the O’s outscored the Sox 10-1 in the 7th and 8th innings of the game Tuesday night and pulled off the biggest comeback in O’s history.
Wednesday night followed with the O’s bullpen giving up the lead to the Sox and losing the game in extra innings. Wow! That was a punch to the stomach.
Well in other news, the O’s offense did pretty well scoring five runs early against the Sox but they couldn’t keep the pace, and stopped scoring.
The O’s struck early in this game, scoring all five of their runs in the first four innings off of Josh Beckett. Felix Pie got the start tonight for Adam Jones, who got the wind knocked out of him Tuesday night.
The O’s gave Jones the day off only to nurse his sore right side and is expected to be playing in tomorrow nights’ game.
With a 1-0 lead, the O’s scored again in the second inning. Luke Scott hit his team leading, 15th HR of the year, a solo shot to make it 2-0. After the Sox answered with a run, the O’s responded AGAIN. Nick Markakis hit a two run double that scored Brian Roberts and Robert Andino to put the O’s ahead of the Sox 4-1. Ty Wiggington then came up in the fourth and hit a solo shot as well, his sixth making it 5-1 O’s.
As an O’s fan, you were very happy that the offense had it going early, and Bergesen was pitching well. After Bergesen pitched eight innings of one run ball, Johnson came in and walked the leadoff hitter, Pedroia, followed up by a two run tater by Kevin “Youk” Youkillis. Sherrill then got the call and came on luckily to strike out Bay and Ortiz. Sherrill walked Bailey and Varitek to load the bases. Baldelli lined a single up the middle to plate Ellsbury and Bailey making it 5-5. The Orioles ended up losing the game in extra innings with the Red Sox laughing this time.
Tonight, the O’s pen looked very shaky and George Sherrill did something he hadn’t done for awhile, give up a run! Wow the Red Sox got the last laugh tonight, and they had something to say to the O’s.
Tuesday night at Oriole Park in Camden Yards. Dave Trembley commented on the win saying,
“That was just tremendous. It was by far the best game I have been involved in.”
With the O’s down and their starters out, the first O’s hitters of the seventh inning made it an eight run deficit, (score was 10-1 before). Oscar Salazar then came to the plate and mashed a three run home run making the score 10-6 by the end of the inning.
The eighth inning, the O’s struck again, when the first three O’s batters got singles off of Hideki Okajima. Next, rookie Matt Wieters came up to the dish and singled home starting LF Nolan Reimold. Score now 10-7, Ty Wiggington hit a sac fly to make it 10-8 Red Sox. Brian Roberts, who was slumping knocked a single down the third base line, scoring another run making it 10-9 Red Sox. After Felix Pie came up and struck out, it was Nick Markakis. Markakis got a great pitch, and sent it into the left center field gap, bringing home two runs, and giving the O’s the lead.
George Sherrill got to close it out for the O’s, who almost lost it. But retired the side. He gave up a single to the leadoff Sox hitter. Then set down Lugo and Pedroia before beaning Youkillis who had an HR earlier in the game. With runners on first and second, Sherrill struck out Bay, and the O’s went nuts! Sherrill got his 17 save of the year, while the O’s came onto the field to celebrate! And can I say what a win it was for the O’s. That was very exciting and now I believe. Until next time…. GO O’s!!!! 🙂
Adam Jones sprinted to the center field wall in anticipation to catch Kevin “Youk” Youkillis’ home run ball, but instead he hit the wall full force and had the wind knocked out of him. Jones stayed in the game for the second inning until Orioles skipper Dave Trembley pulled him for precautions, with the Sox already winning 4-0. Felix Pie was put in to fill his spot and almost immediately contributed with an RBI triple in the bottom of the third. Although Jones was okay. the Orioles aren’t.
C’mon people out there. We need you all to vote for the Orioles duo, (Markakis and Jones) to get into the All Star Game. They are almost the same in every category, and in fantasy they are one point apart. So why not vote Orange? Brian Roberts needs a push too, but he will most likely not get it due to the fact Pedroia is all publicity now…. So we need all of you to get at least one, yes one O in the All Star Game (ASG).
